On behalf of one of our clients within the life science and medical device industry, we are looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to join their site in Uppsala!

In this role, you will take a leading part in the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced automation systems supporting high-speed production equipment in a highly regulated environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across Manufacturing, Quality, and IT, driving automation and digitalization initiatives that improve productivity, quality, reliability, and data integrity.

This is a short-term assignment of approximately two months, supporting ongoing automation initiatives at the client’s site.

As an Automation Engineer, you will:

• Lead the design, programming, troubleshooting, and optimization of automation systems, including PLCs, HMI, and SCADA applications for manufacturing equipment.

• Define, implement, and validate automation projects in accordance with Computer System Validation (CSV) methodology and GAMP 5 standards.

• Lead automation and digitalization projects supporting the transition to electronic batch records (eBR) and integration of manufacturing systems within the SCADA environment.

• Implement and optimize vision inspection systems, including Körber/Seidenader and Cognex solutions (VIDI & Shaman).

• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to deliver automated solutions that enhance productivity, reliability, quality, and data integrity.

• Serve as an OT Cybersecurity Lead, working closely with IT teams to ensure secure manufacturing operations.

• Conduct structured root cause investigations for automation and software-related issues, applying problem-solving tools aligned with non-conformity and CAPA processes.

• Act as technical owner for assigned computerized systems, leading lifecycle activities such as upgrades and obsolescence mitigation.

• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) during audits, validations, and investigations.

• Contribute to a culture of innovation, safety, and continuous improvement across the manufacturing organization.

Qualifications:

• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation and control systems, preferably within pharmaceutical, medical device, or other regulated industries.

• Strong knowledge of PLC and SCADA platforms such as Rockwell Automation/FactoryTalk, Siemens TIA Portal, or CodeSys.

• Experience leading automation projects involving high-speed production equipment, motion control, robotics, or MES/eBR integration.

• Hands-on experience with vision inspection systems such as Seidenader and/or Cognex (VIDI & Shaman).

• Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols, OPC, and networked control systems.

• Knowledge of Computer System Validation (CSV), GAMP 5, ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, and data integrity requirements (21 CFR Part 11).

• Programming skills in Python and/or SQL are considered an advantage.

• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

• Fluency in English is required; Swedish is considered a merit but not a requirement.
